BCTV Program Director’s Report
April 10, 2007 Equipment and Facilities: We received the new camera, tripod and microphone from the Community Foundation Grant. I have shot some video and am quite pleased with the results. Nancy Sosman is our new part time office manager. She is technically a WCAP employee, but sshe is “training” with us for up to a year. She is a quick learner and actually edited some footage I shot on the new camera. It was a nice piece on the recent St. George River Race. I have been teaching Nancy various operational aspects of our station. We continue to fine tune our server playback. It seems with the server, we are not needing all the DVD players, and that frees up some channels on our automation device to accept additional satellite signals, I am considering purchasing an additional satellite receiver when we can afford it. We have been offered some video gear from a Searsport resident, and I will be looking at it this week to determine if some of it would be useful to our operation Programming: Our live coverage of the “Belfast Leadership Action Summit” was well received by the community. The First Church in Belfast is taping Church Services and they began airing them on the station over Easter. We continue to get inquirees about having programs produced by the station. I am educating callers that we are not a production house, but also let them know that we will be offering training session on use of our camera and editor. We also have potential producers inquiring about having their shows air on the station, and we of course do what we can to encourage local productions. We will be celebrating our first anniversary this coming May and I am looking to produce a compilation reel of programming highlights. I have also been invited to speak in May at the local Rotary Club luncheon about our station. Apparently people are interested in us. Respectfully submitted by Ned Lightner
We are thrilled to report that BCTV now has an actual paid staff person. Nancy Sosman comes to us through the Senior Community Service Employment Program. This wonderful federally funded program pays Nancy's salary for up to a year. Nancy will be our office manager and will be working 20 hours a week doing everything from programming our automated playback system, to fundraising, and production assistance. Nancy most recently served as Librarian at the Winterport Library, but she also has been an office manager, legal secretary and Administrative assistant. We are thrilled to have Nancy working here and look forward to having her bring her wonderful organizational skills, humor and wisdom to our little station.
